How do I import a firearm into South Africa?

If you plan to bring firearms into South Africa for hunting purposes, you will need to complete the SAP 520 Form, a Temporary Import Application available for download on our website. For your convenience, we recommend filling out the form before your arrival at Limpopo Valley Safaris. Alternatively, you can complete it upon arrival.

Which calibres can I use?

Medium: Large game on open terrain requiring longer range shots:
Kudu, zebra, gemsbuck, waterbuck and other animals of the same size
.338 Win. Magnum, 7mm Remmington, 30-06, 7X64
 
Medium: Large game in bushveld requiring shots over shorter distances:
Eland, kudu, bluewildebeest and other animals of the same size
375, 9.3X62, 30-06(heavy grain), .308, 7X57, 303
 
Rifle hire is available for US$50,00 per day per rifle.

What should I pack for my visit?
  • Comfortable, lightweight hiking shoes
  • Light khaki or camouflage clothing
  • Good quality binoculars (8 x 40 or 10 x 42 magnification)
  • Sun protection (sunglasses and sunscreen)
  • Insect repellent
  • Hat
  • Sweater or jacket, as temperatures during the hunting season vary from 32°F in the morning to 70°F during the day
  • Personal toiletries
  • Flashlight with spare batteries
  • Folding knife
  • Lip balm
  • Rifle shell holders or belt carrier
  • Travel documents (passport valid for 6 months after the return date to the USA, firearm documentation, airline tickets, travel insurance, money, and any required medical records)
  • Phone numbers (foreign and local contacts)
  • Confirmation of hotels, car rental, etc.
What is included in your daily rates?
  • Service of a licensed professional hunter
  • Use of a fully equipped 4×4 hunting vehicle
  • All local drinks, soft drinks, bottled water, etc.
  • All staff at the ranch: trackers, chefs, and waiters
  • Field preparation of trophies: skinning, salting, and transporting to the taxidermist
What is excluded from your daily rates?
  • Transfer from Johannesburg (Oliver Tambo International Airport)
  • Expenses incurred before the safari commences and after hunting
  • Gratuities for staff
  • Taxidermy work on trophies and shipping
  • Rifle hire
  • All animals wounded will be paid for in full
  • Alcohol at cost price
What are your Terms & Conditions?

DEPOSIT:

A 20% deposit is required upon booking your hunting safari. The remaining balance is payable upon completion of the safari. Charges are incurred for trophies taken or wounded during regular safaris only.

IN CASE OF CANCELLATION:

  • More than 45 days prior to arrival: 90% of the total safari price is refunded
  • 30 to 45 days prior to arrival: 80% of the total safari price is refunded
  • 15 to 30 days prior to arrival: 50% of the total safari price is refunded
  • Less than 15 days prior to arrival: No refund will be provided.

LIABILITY:

The Hunting Outfitter is not liable for any damage, losses, or expenses resulting from circumstances beyond our control, such as sickness, quarantine, weather conditions, war, strikes, or riots. We accept no liability for death, injury, loss, or damage to persons or property arising from any act, omission, or negligence. Clients are deemed to waive any entitlements under the law of the Republic of South Africa for any loss or damage to person or property. We shall not be liable for any loss or expense resulting from property loss, safari cancellation, or curtailment, except where caused by the Hunting Outfitter's negligence.

JURISDICTION:

The Courts of the Republic of South Africa shall have exclusive jurisdiction in all matters requiring recourse to the Court. The prevailing law of the Republic of South Africa shall prevail to the exclusion of any other country's Courts.
